Francisco Calvo

Partner

Francisco Calvo is a founding partner of Jarsun, Ferreira & Calvo and co-leads the firm's Investment Arbitration and International Disputes practice. His practice focuses on disputes involving sovereign states, state-owned enterprises and foreign investors, with particular experience in investment arbitration, public law and cross-border litigation. He is admitted to practice in New York and Buenos Aires.

Francisco represents sovereign states, state-owned enterprises and corporate clients in investment and commercial arbitrations under the ICSID Convention, the ICSID Additional Facility Rules, the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the ICC Rules. He has substantial experience in international arbitration hearings, including conducting direct and cross-examinations of fact and expert witnesses before international tribunals.

His practice also covers cross-border litigation and advice on disputes and legal risks arising from international investments, government contracts, regulatory measures and other forms of state action. His background in public and administrative law provides particular depth in matters at the intersection of international law, regulation and the exercise of sovereign authority.

Before founding Jarsun, Ferreira & Calvo, Francisco represented sovereign states and state-owned enterprises in investment and commercial arbitrations, in both English and Spanish, before ICSID tribunals and ad hoc tribunals constituted under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules.

Earlier in his career, Francisco served at a trial court in Buenos Aires, where he worked on complex administrative, regulatory, tax, environmental and public health matters and participated in the preparation of judicial decisions and hearings. He also completed an internship at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), where he worked on the processing of petitions and participated in proceedings before the Commission.

Francisco teaches Public International Law at the University of Buenos Aires, where he has been a member of the faculty since 2014 and was appointed Adjunct Professor in 2024.
